A frosted over windshield typically leads most drivers to turn on the heat in order to clear their views. However, there are a few other ways to defog a windshield without the use of heat.
How To Defrost Your Windshield Without Heat
There are still several methods drivers can use without turning on the heat. Try one of the windshield clearing techniques below.
Method 1. Apply De-Icing Spray
- You can find a de-icing spray at the majority of local auto supply stores.
- Shake the solution prior to applying it.
- Spray it evenly throughout the car’s windshield.
- Let the spray sit for a few minutes while it melts the frost off.
- Start from the top, working your way down as you remove the frost.
- Do this with the help of either an ice scraper or soft cloth.
Method 2. Use An Ice Scraper
- You can always use a sturdy ice scraper for this task.
- Place this on the windshield and start scraping the frost.
- Do this in a motion that starts from top to bottom.
- Be cautious as you want to avoid creating any cracks in the glass.
- Scrape until the glass is completely clear of any frost.
Method 3. Rubbing Alcohol
- Mix water and rubbing alcohol in a spray container with a 1:2 ratio.
- Ensure the solution is mixed properly.
- Spray this onto the windshield.
- Let the solution sit for at least 2 minutes.
- Use an ice scraper or soft cloth to remove all the remaining frost.
Method 4. Mix Water And Vinegar
- Mix equal parts water and vinegar in a spray container.
- Mix the solution well and apply it to the windshield/windows.
- Let the solution sit for a couple minutes.
- Work your way from the top on down the windshield.
- Use a soft cloth or ice scraper to fully remove any melted frost.
